A MAF flight carried an Equip2Serve team to a remote part of Liberia to provide a week of education for church leaders from surrounding communities.
A team from Equip2Serve flew with MAF to Maryland County to provide intensive training for church leaders, but just reaching the venue was a test of endurance for some of the pastors.
Adam Demark, Equip2Serve’s co-executive director, said his team were impressed by the effort of around 40 pastors to attend the week of Bible teaching.
“The pastors' commitment to learning was evident, as some faced significant challenges in attending, two pastors from Buchanan lost their luggage and shoes in the mud while traveling by road, a journey that took them two days,” Adam said.
Adam was part of a team of seven who travelled on a MAF flight from the Liberian capital Monrovia to hold the training programme in the community of Pleebo.
Reflecting on the impact of MAF’s support, he highlighted how the charter flight saved them valuable time and helped them to be more effective in their work.
“The fact that MAF can fly us in an hour and a half, saving time and energy, is a great blessing to us. It enables us to focus more on the teaching rather than the tiring journey,” he added.
This flight allowed the team to complete teaching over five days, which might have otherwise been consumed by road travel. The pastors who attended the programme were not only grateful for the teachings but also left with a commitment to correct any false teachings in their congregations based on their new understanding.
The training focused on interpreting the Old Testament prophets, with about 30 to 40 hours of lessons that covered both the historical background and the common themes in the books of Isaiah through Malachi.
“Whenever they have new light and new responsibility, they're very grateful. But with that also comes the responsibility to do some corrective teaching, which they are excited to share with their congregations,” Adam added.
The training also provided resources for further study, and the pastors received certificates of completion.
“It has completely enabled us to do the ministry that God has called us to in a shorter amount of time. We would still be on the road in the same five days we used to complete the teaching,” he said.
