How MAF's regular connection to Harper is helping health team to keep workers and patients safe.

As safeguarding manager at Partners in Health in Harper, Celestine Brown knows how important it is to be able to travel to and from the region with MAF.

The Partners in Health employee is normally based in the southeast of Liberia but appreciated the opportunity to fly to the capital Monrovia for a break.

“The whole idea of safety is not about the individual,” Celestine explains. “It’s about everyone’s safety.

“So just being the person who's leading that journey is something that makes me happy.”

This principle extends beyond their work in healthcare; it’s something their staff have come to appreciate deeply in their travels with MAF.

“Safety is number one for MAF. That’s why I would encourage anyone to ride with them,” says Celestine.

Rough roads, deep mud, and delays make road travel exhausting in Liberia.

“The road is still seriously challenging here and there bumping by the time you come, you are not ready to engage in your work activities. So, MAF being here, is a blessing,” she says.

“I will take like about one hour, 35 minutes, I'm already there. Nothing happened to me. I’m fine. I go to work, and from there, I can do a few things before the day ends,”

“MAF being here is relevant. It’s appropriate. It’s needed.”

PIH has been at the forefront of transforming health, particularly in Maryland County, while also creating employment opportunities for local healthcare professionals and support staff.

Emmanuel Koffa made the journey from Monrovia to Harper to begin his new job as safety and security officer. MAF's flight from the capital meant he arrived refreshed and ready to start work the same day.

“I'm very much excited about this opportunity that have been afforded me, of me taking up this assignment and riding with MAF,” says Emmanuel.

“We had a poor road condition in Liberia. So that is why MAF is playing a major part in the life of PIH. By carrying our staff here and there.”
